Enterprise Solutions
Unlike smaller companies, large "Enterprise Class" businesses will always have significant IT departments, usually containing hundreds or even thousands of technical workers, so the challenge is definitely not finding bodies who know about technology.
However, even with an organization of this size, there are often "holes" of expertise - certain technologies are collectively unknown within your staff. Alternatively, you may have one or two experts, but enough work for ten of them.
Now you're faced with another tough question:
By delaying these other initiatives, how much competitive edge are we losing?
Typically, you solve this challenge using some or all of the following methods:
- You hire new, and often younger, employees who already know the new technologies.
- You bring in contractors for a project, giving you a disposable expert workforce.
- You retrain existing employees for the new technologies you need.
Naturally, these methods all have their obstacles:
- Hiring new employees is not always easy, given the shortage of skilled workers.
- Contractors, although flexible, still have their limits. To bring one in usually requires a full-time commitment for 3 to 12 months, and that can get a bit pricey as well, especially if the project is small.
- The existing employees you'd like to retrain already have responsibilities, meaning they'll have to be replaced or loaded down with more responsibility. Unfortunately, too much responsibility often means too much overtime, and a quality employee may go find another job.
Of course, there is another method that's becoming more appealing to business:
- You outsource the project, whole or in part, to another company.
If project outsourcing is an option, Sequoia can help.
Having spent some years in Enterprise IT organizations, we understand the need for integration and simple solutions that deliver results. We also understand that a solution needs to fit into your existing infrastructure, so the choice of technology needs to support that.
EX: If your company uses Windows clients and NT/2000 servers, we wouldn't normally pitch a UNIX solution (and vice versa).
Of course, we can't help you with everything. Naturally, even we have our own limits regarding our expertise. Read on to find out more about our technical capabilities.
Here are some examples of projects we can help with:
- Developing an interactive web site or an Internet-based system for use by employees or customers.
- Developing an Internet or Intranet strategy, including technical architecture, policies, and guidelines.
- Building or enhancing a client-server application, and training your employees on use. We could maintain the application on an ongoing basis, or train your developers to take over the code.
- Custom web development services
- Custom programming services for Client/Server, MS-Office integration, or desktop solutions.
